Do You Enjoy Film?

We love film! And we think that Canadians make some of the best films available. Since June 2000, the Canada House Cine-Club has been screening Canadian feature films in London.

What to expect

While Canadian directors have made some of Hollywood's biggest blockbusters (they don't come much bigger than James Cameron's TITANIC), you're not likely to find many Blockbusters here. And while we screen films from Canadian directors working in the US (Norman Jewison's THE HURRICANE was our second film), you are more likely to find works by directors still working in Canada.

Canadian Films can take you around the world; from 1971 India in SUCH A LONG JOURNEY to 1967 Japan in Robert LaPage's NO or to the first world war genocide of Turkey's Armenian community in ARARAT.  And let's not forget two unforgeable David  Cronenberg films about our own London, SPIDER and EASTERN PROMISSES.

And, of course, we've been taken all across Canada.  From the Newfoundland of RARE BIRDS, the Nova Scotia of MARGARET'S MUSEUM, Quebec in LA GRANDE SEDUCTION, the Alberta of FUBAR and Canada's northern extremes in THE SNOW WALKER and ATANARJUAT, just to name a few.

Canada's newer communities also have a voice .  Toronto's Indian community gave us the excellent BOLLYWOOD HOLLYWOOD while Vancouver's Chinese Community contributed LONG LIFE, HAPPINESS AND PROSPERITY.

Many of our films do not have a Canadian theme but most have Canadian directors.  We have screened noteworthy films co-produced by Canadians with little Canadian content  (IN THE COMPANY OF MEN) and films that were not officially Canadian but had a significant Canadian connection (THE SHIPPING NEWS, JUNO).

We are proud to say that most of our films are "art-house" films made on small (or should we say very small) budgets.  But with directors like David Cronenberg, Denys Arcand, Atom Egoyan, Robert LaPage and Deepa Mehta still working in Canada,  we can expect the Cine-Club to be showing outstanding Canadian content for years to come.

Our Venue

Our venue is the 48-seat private Screening Cinema at Canada House, Trafalgar Square. We are blessed with one of the best places in London to see a film.  Come relax on your own individual sofa sipping a glass of complimentary Canadian wine while watching the film.  Decadence!

In the event that the Cine-Club is wound up or ceases to exist, any residual funds held will be donated to The Canada House Arts Trust.
